THE CRACK ERA EXHIBIT FEATURING CRACK BABY

    SNEAK PEEK CRACK BABY 2

    Gun Play

“Happy Birthday Phil, this party is off the hook,” says a drunken Donna as she nearly falls over.

“Thank you, I see you’re having fun,” he replies.

“Hell yeah, bottoms up!” Donna says right before she guzzles the last of her drink. Then she rushes off to find the bathroom. Just then, a few football players walk up to Philip.

“A Blood, this party is going down, it’s hella hoes up in here,” says Dom.

“Hell yeah, it’s hella thick up in here,” says Joe as he shakes Philip’s hand.

Philip smiles from ear to ear for several reasons. One, he is high as a kite, two, he is drunk as a skunk, three, he is having the time of his life because four, this is the first birthday party he has ever had. And boy, did he go all out for it with the help of Dru and Big Bruce of course.

The party is beyond packed as everyone has piled into Bjornson Hall. Philip decided to have his party there after going to a party given by a softball team full of fine female athletes. Jimmy was messing with the girl who played 3rd base, so of course they had to slide through. And they were not disappointed at all.

The party actually gave him the idea of having an 18th birthday party. He was more than happy that he did. Hell, he is so popular in school, even though he hardly ever went, that it was bound to be a success. The alcohol is flowing, and the weed is being passed around. There are several granddaddy blunts being rolled so they can last longer. Basically, the party has all the elements needed for it to be off the hook.

The DJ is slapping, there are half naked girls, all his patnas showed up who are greasing his palms with cold hard cash, an endless supply of alcohol, some of Oakland’s sticky icky and of course everything is taken place in the dark. Along with the crew, Philip and Jimmy usual start getting loaded early but today, Philip knew that he wanted to remember at least a part of the night, so he and Jimmy took it easy until the party was set to begin.

Oh, but when it did, they both dove-in hard with four back-to-back shots. Dru and the crew are too old to be crashing this party, however they did have to make an appearance since Dru is the one who rented the hall, and there had to be some type of supervision. Dru was always impressed with Philip’s ability to attract a crowd, so a giant light bulb goes off in his head as he, Lefty and Face, walk through the increasingly growing crowd. He figures he can rent halls or other venues and throw parties for high school students.

Philip and Jimmy would make the perfect promoters; they would charge at the door and slide some alcohol in. Dru knows they can make a killing so when they make it back to the car, Dru writes his idea down and some potential names so he can tell Philip and Jimmy later.

Meanwhile, back in the party, freaks are getting freaky on the dance floor and other people are dragging themselves around because they were lit. Security is definitely in full force as it is always expected for some type of drama to pop off. Just then, when the next adrenaline pumping song penetrated the sound system, a light shoving match ensues, initiated by one of the school’s bullies. Nevertheless, before any blows can be thrown, security swoops in to defuse the situation. They immediately escort the two problem makers out as they turn a deaf ear to reason behind the mayhem.

“Man, this fool hella drunk and he’s the one that was hella tripping with me. I’m trying to get back in there with the fine hoes. He just mad ‘because he don’t have no hoes,” says JD pleading his case.

“Nigga, shut up, why you worried about my bitches?” says Rez.

“Trust me, I’m not, ‘because you don’t have none.”

“Both of y’all shut up, out here sounding like the bitches you don’t have,” jumps in the security guard.

“Man, I’m on the football team, ask Phil if I can come back in there. I’m telling you he gon’ be like yeah!”

Rez wiggles his way free and voluntarily leaves the premises. “Man, I ain’t got time for this shit. Forget this party,” he continues as he walks to his car.

“Now his bitch ass is gone, I know I can get back in the party now,” says JD. Just then, he has a sigh of relief when Philip strolls out with two cups in his hand and two girls on his arms.

JD jerks away from custody as he calls Philip. “A Phil, can you tell these fools to let me back in the party,” JD pleads.

“Yeah, it’s good, that’s my folks,” replies Philip.

“Why they got you hemmed up anyway?” Philip asks JD.

The security guards return to their original posts as JD gives Phil a quick explanation.

“Man, that nigga Rez think he can fade me. He is a hater, always tryna bump into me, acting like it’s an accident. I been told his ass to stop playing with me,” answers JD.

Philip shakes his hand and ends the conversation. “Alright Blood, well it’s all good for you to go back inside, don’t even trip,” Philip instructs JD. He then turns his attention to the two chicks that is escorting him to his car.

Back inside, the party is going down. Everybody is freak dancing as the girls rub their hind parts up and down the private area of the boys. Most of the party goers control their liquor but of course not everyone is equipped the same, so the lightweights take turns calling Earl in the bathroom. It is truly a night to remember because the chaos doesn’t end there. As everyone disperses outside, they are exposed to a crazy sight.

“Get your damn hands up, all of you funning looking Bitches,” yells a racist fat head cop at a SUV full of young black females. He and three other cops point their shot guns at the joyriders which brings their adventurous night to an abrupt end. All of the females oblige as they are too terrified to rebut let alone asks any questions. Party goers are shocked as they make their way to their prospective means of transportation.

“Damn, what in the hell did they do?” asks Brandy.

“Driving while black, you already know,” replies Terry.

They know damn well they don’t have to do them like that; that’s a car full of girls, like really!” continues Brandy.

“That’s why I can’t stand the police; they are always messing with black people when they should be trying to find murderers or something.”

“Right, they always messing with fools selling drugs when they are the ones who set drug dealers up in the first place.”

Just then, shots ring out. There’s like 12 shots back-to-back. Everyone quickly scatters, as black people run first and asks questions later. The shooting forces the officers to abandon their hostile hold-up and focus their attention on the shots fired. They are unsure if lethal fireworks are directed towards them as their presence is always less than welcome in any Oakland neighborhood. One of the officers takes note of the license plate number as the others point their shot guns toward the new ruckus. The officer sarcastically relays a message, “We’ll be in touch real soon, Black Bitch.”

He then follows suite with the rest of his fellow officers. The car full of girls is filled with every emotion anyone can think of. They are anxious, scared, furious, confused and appalled all at once. Kara, the passenger, is Jimmy’s pick of the month at that time as soon as they reach their final destination for the duration of the evening, she calls him hysterically.

“Did you see the damn police pointing shot guns at us?”

“Oh shit, that was you!” Jimmy replies.

“Hell, yeah that was, I’m hella mad right now,” Kara quickly answers back.

Jimmy could only imagine as he hears the commotion in the background. “Oh, hell nah, what the hell did they say? I know it was a bunch of bullshit with a car full of bitches.”

    “Excuse me!”

    “You know what I mean.”

“Well, come over to Val’s house. I really need you to come over right now, like for real.”

    “Y’all good,” replies Jimmy.

“No, we’re not! They just pulled shot guns on us for no good reason,” sobs Kara.

“Alright, it’s cool. We gon’ come over, where you at?”

“We at Val’s house. You don’t remember that? I just said it a minute ago.”

“Girl, you know I’m loaded right now. Alright, we ‘bout to come through,” says Jimmy.

“Okay baby. Please bring some weed. We need to smoke.”

“Girl, you know that’s automatic, I got y’all. I know you need to smoke after that bullshit.”

45 minutes later, Jimmy, Philip and Shawn show up on Val’s doorstep, loaded with pockets full of weed. It is enough to last them the rest of the night plus all day tomorrow if needed. They have blunt wraps that need to be dumped into the trash before they can roll the weed. The girls each roll a blunt in order to continue the party. The first blunt toast was for the night. And of course, they can’t continue the party without the  Vodka and Hennessy.

“Val, where’s your mom at? It’s cool for us to be here like this?” Shawn asks.

“Yeah, Stella tryna get her grove back in Vegas,” answers Val.

“Oh, she hit up Vegas hunh?”

“Yeah, she still thinks she young, out there running them streets.”

    “Oh, that’s what’s up.”

“So, what the hell happened? Why the hell 5-0 had y’all hemmed up like that?” demands Philip.

The ladies take deep breaths before they recount the night.

Val, Kara, Tiffany and April decide they want to leave the party to go to the store. April is the designated driver for the night, so she hadn’t been drinking as much as everyone else. She leads the pack of friends outside to the car. They all manage to climb in before April quickly takes off. The girls’ fuss as they hold on for dear life.

April really didn’t want to leave in the first place because she was having a good time with AJ, her crush. But all the other girls told her she had to go since they all rode together. They pull up to a nearby store that is in the cuts. They make their way to the front door. April is dragging since they made her go. Tiffany and Val make it inside the store while Kara and April are at the door after Kara urges April to hurry up.

Just as they open the door to enter the store, 3 guys bust out of the door in a tremendous rush. They have partial disguises as they are still brandishing their weapons as a threat to the clerk. The guys damn near knock down Tiffany and Val and assault Kara and April with the front door as they make their escape. The girls are caught off guard but are nowhere near too intoxicated to figure out that the store had just been robbed.

The girls know better than to be caught at the scene of a crime so there is no hesitation for Tiffany and Val to meet Kara and April on the other side of the door, then bolt to the car. They move so fast that they pulled out of the parking lot at the same time as the armed robbers. The store clerk’s adrenaline is still pumping while making a distraught phone call to 911 and gives the description of April’s car not realizing they were not the culprits. The police quickly respond and catch up to April’s Red Jeep Cherokee right as they are getting ready to pull back up to the party.

The police aggressively pull the girls over almost causing them to crash. Four cops hop out of two cars, all drawing their shot guns while two cops stay in the third police car. Each cop approaches each window of April’s car as they yell at them to get their hands up. The girls are ordered to roll their windows down. They are ordered to keep their hands on the ceiling. Even though the police are fully aware that the robbers are male, they still decide to harass the girls by demanding them to keep their hands up while giving them the third degree. The police in the third cruiser run April’s plates and finds nothing. The girls are so terrified that they sober up beyond quick.

“They only reason they let us go is because somebody started bustin’ and they knew damn well we didn’t hit the store,” says Kara.

“Damn, that is some straight bullshit for real,” answers Shawn.

“Bet y’all gon’ stay at the party next time,” says Jimmy as he laughs slightly.

Kara hits him, “Baby that’s not funny.”

“No, what’s really messed up is, if that was four black dudes that they pulled over, they would have blasted one of them for sure, then would have said that he was reaching for an imaginary gun,” says Philip.

“Oh, that’s without a doubt, you feel me,” agrees Shawn.

“Hello, can we focus because it wasn’t a car full of dudes, it was us and we didn’t do shit,” yells Val.

“Alright, forget it, let’s stop talking about it. We got smokes and drank, let’s finish the party. Turn the music up,” says Jimmy.

“We can’t turn it up too loud, I’m not supposed to be here, remember,” says Val.

“Girl, you know yo’ mama know you a runner,” says Philip.

“Ha, ha, ha, you are so funny, I forgot to laugh. If I was a runner y’all wouldn’t be here right now,” rebuts Val.

The next day Philip and Jimmy meet with Dru to discuss his big idea. As they keep the party going for Philip’s birthday, Dru tells them about starting a weekend party business. “The parties will target high school students and you and Jimmy will be the main promoters because y’all always bring a crowd. We gon’ have flyers and by the time it catches on, it’s gon’ be all good,” says Dru.

“I never even thought about that, but yeah we do be having it cranking,” replies Philip.

“So where are we going to be having the parties at? And we need to have somebody at the other school promoting so it can really go down,” adds Jimmy.
